FAQs

Does the Implant have fewer side effects than other hormonal contraceptive methods?

Some of the side effects associated with the implant are similar to those of other hormonal methods like progestin-only injections and combined oral contraceptives. For instance, breast tenderness is not uncommon with hormonal contraceptive methods, however, these usually resolve after you have had the implant for several months.

Does the Implant show?

Because the implant is normally inserted just underneath the skin, it shouldn't show. Occasionally, inflammation or infection can occur at the site of the implant, but this usually resolves and is very rare.

Can I breastfeed while I have the Implant?

If you are considering using the implant during breastfeeding, it should be done after the sixth week of delivery. The implant's hormone, progestin, will not affect the baby's growth and development.

Does the Implant protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)

No. The implant simply protects you against pregnancy but cannot protect you or your partner from STDs. You must use a barrier method of birth control such as a latex condom (either male or female).
