Side Effects

Are there side effects associated with the Implant?

The implant can be associated with some unwanted effects but these usually end within three months of use. These may include:

Headache

Headaches may occur but this side effect is rare. If headaches are severe or persistent, contact your doctor.

Menstrual Bleeding Irregularities

Unscheduled bleeding is a characteristic of progestogen - only contraception like the implant. In most women, bleeding will lessen or even disappear.

Weight Change

Weight change varies among individuals. Some women may gain weight while others may lose weight. Generally speaking, watching what you eat and getting adequate exercise may help control weight gain.

Depression, Ovarian Cysts and Breast Tenderness

These side effects have been reported with the implant, but are extremely rare.
